Alabama Governor Kai Ivey recently signed into law a new law raising the minimum age for purchasing, owning, and shipping tobacco products from 19 to 21. The bill, called HB273, covers cigarettes and new tobacco products, including E-cigarettes. According to the bill, the purpose of the new law is to prevent youth addiction and underlying health problems such as lung cancer, coronary heart disease, and stroke. The bill also regulates tobacco advertising to ensure that young people under the age of 21 are not targeted to buy tobacco products.
